Boost resilience with thymus tapotement

What is the thymus?

The thymus is an organ located in the thoracic cavity just behind your sternum. Also called the Thymus Chakra or Higher Heart Chakra, it bridges reason and emotion, representing compassion, patience and spiritual alignment. The thymus also plays a vital role in boosting resilience and helping your immunity by producing white blood cells that protect the body from infection – and tapotement helps stimulate this production further.

Thymus tapotement

Featuring in our Strength and Resilience Massage (read about this new treatment here), thymus tapotement is a therapist technique that can also be done at home to help calm anxieties, improve breathing and strengthen your immunity. Add it to your wellness toolkit and practice it in the morning to energise mind and body, before exercise to invigorate, or late afternoon to overcome lethargy. Here’s how:

  1. Sit cross-legged on a rug or mat with your chest open and back straight. If this feels uncomfortable, sit against a wall and straighten your legs out in front of you.
  2. Open the lungs with five deep breaths.
  3. Bring your hands in front of your sternum. Cup each hand and use the tips of your fingers to gently tap this area, first with one hand and then the other for 30-60 seconds.
  4. Let your fingers automatically continue this rhythmic tapping as you breathe deeply.
